Scottish plan to double free childcare faces risks, says watchdog

Audit Scotland highlights gap between Scottish government’s and councils’ estimate of costs The Scottish government’s ambition to double childcare hours by 2020 is facing “significant risks”, according to a spending watchdog. Nicola Surgeon made her flagship pledge to increase from 600 to 1,140 the hours available for all three- and four-year-olds and vulnerable two-year-olds in her first programme for government, in November 2014.
